Hula-hooping: Ages 8-14 *Begins 11/15/18* This class is all about body-awareness, movement, flow and fun! This class will expose youngsters to the basics of hula-hooping, from maintaining the hoop at their waist, down to their hips, and even down onto their upper legs, depending on individual ability. Students will also learn how to fluidly bring the hoop from their waist to above their head into the halo movement, allowing them to transition the hoop for off-body tricks, including basic hand-hooping, passing from hand to hand, tossing and catching the hoop, forward and backward weaves, and depending on individual ability, the isolation and isolation pop. Once basic tricks are introduced, a mix of music will be enjoyed in order to encourage blending the flow of the hoop with the rhythm of music. In addition, should individual students progress more quickly than their peers, there are plenty of other tricks to be introduce, depending on the interest of the student. Dress code: Hula-hoops stick best to skin, so comfortable shorts and a short-sleeve or sleeveless top are encouraged. Jeans and slippery tights are discouraged.
Creative Movement: Ages 3-6 This is the perfect class for your young dancers. We focus on creative movement which builds on the necessary gross motor skills needed for primary dance instruction. We use fun, upbeat music to learn basic skills like hopping, skipping, jumping, galloping, and balance coordination. Students will engage in dramatic music movement and learn introductory ballet steps. These include plies, tendu, releve, arabesque, the five positions of the feet, and other introductory dance steps. Creative movement increases mental and physical development and creativity. Dress code: Black Leotard, pink tights, ballet shoes, elastic skirts (optional), and hair pulled back off of face.
Ballet: Ages 7-12 Ballet is the backbone to all forms of dance and is a must for the serious dancer. Dancers will learn classical ballet positions and technique. Serious instruction, with heavy emphasis on technique begins around the age of eight. Barre exercises are of primary concern in the early stages of training so dancers become aware of their center (balance). Dancers eventually work into centre floor exercises and learn classical steps and movements. Dancers will improve their choreography and performance skills. Dress code: Black leotard, pink tights, ballet shoes, skirts (optional), and hair pulled back off of face.
Jazz/Hip Hop: Ages 7-12 Jazz lays the groundwork for technique in upbeat dancing. Students will learn a variety of dance combinations, jumps and turns. This class is a must for students wanting to learn the fundamentals of classic jazz technique. The music selection ranges from popular top 40 hits of various decades combined with Hip Hop. Dancers will Learn the latest new moves like seen on MTV, current music videos, and L.A.’s coolest street style dance. Hip-Hop is the newest trend in dance. Students will learn what it takes to make basic dance moves look hip and funky as they move to upbeat techno mixes with strong base. Dress code: Comfortable pants (jazz pants, or warm-ups), dance Sneakers (NO STREET SHOES), and hair pulled back off of face.
